Scoobert Doobert is an American Low-Fi artist based out of California. He got started in the music industry by his neighbor winning a guitar and leaving it at Scoobert Doobert’s house which led him to learning how to play which evolved into him writing songs as well as recording them. Recording songs is a very expensive process so Scoobert had to figure out how to sell/promote his new found recording addiction. When discussing his musical inspirations Scoobert Doobert stated “ Ryan Guldemond inspired me to be a producer/writer. Though I’ve only met him in passing, he helped me think bigger about the role of the writer. Derek MixedbyAli Ali taught me a ton of mixing tips hanging in his studio. Watching BB King helped me learn subtlety and story telling. David Byrne’s book (and music) showed me how to better explore artistic depth and album cycles. Annie Clark / St Vincent is my biggest guitar tone inspiration. Bernard Purdue, Questlove, and Patrice Rushen are my biggest groove inspirations. Patrice helped mentor me a lot. I had no funk before her help. And the late Lamont Dozier once gave me a songwriting lesson. His advice was to care less about technique. Be different. Express even to the point of needing a surgeon. He told me he knew a good one. Miss him. Nick Campbell and Brian Robert Jones are my biggest bass influences, having played with them many times. I’m so inspired by so many.” One of Scoobert Doobert’s biggest musical achievements so far in his amazing career was playing on, mixing and producing CHAI’s songs. He had always had an interest in practicing Japanese and after a decade of flashcards he’s in Tokyo listening to a song he helped make in a sold-out movie theater in a movie called Sakana No KO. On another one of his most popular songs “Can’t Imagine Feeling Better” is about in Scoobert Doobert’s words “ I wrote it because I was having a great day, little high, delicious beer in my glass, and my landlord came over trying to ruin it. I wrote the song as a FU to other people trying to rain on my parade. If you solo the vocals, you can hear him spraying water on our window from a hose. Sometimes people try to dictate how we feel. Sometimes they succeed. But as the poet Kendrick has said “bitch, don’t kill my vibe.” That’s where the song comes from, and I think that’s why it hits. I might trip on a banana, but I’ll brush myself off and keep feeling good and powerful despite it all.” For the rest of 2023 and in 2024 you can expect Scoobert Doobert to keep making amazing music as well as doing a bunch of collabs with artists and he might have a few live concerts planned in the future.
